Age Restrictions
All vehicles imported to Cyprus must be right-hand drive, as the country follows left-hand traffic regulations.
Age Restrictions
To register a private vehicle in Cyprus, it must be less than 5 years old from the registration year/month at the time of its arrival.
EU Emissions
Imported vehicles must meet EU safety and emissions standards, which typically means Euro 5 or Euro 6 compliance depending on the vehicle’s age. If a vehicle doesn’t meet these requirements, modifications may be necessary.
Customs Duty & VAT
- Excise Duties do not apply to imported vehicles
- Import duty for passenger cars is 10%, commercial vehicles vary between 10% and 22% (www.mof.gov.cy)
- Import duty is charged on the CIF value of vehicles (Vehicle cost+Insurance+Freight)
- VAT of 19% is then levied on top of the CIF value + Import duty
- CO₂-Based Road Tax:
